For over 13 years now, the gin and tonic has been my go to drink in just about everywhere I go. And while I’ve had many different types and brands of gin – from the cheapest well, knockoffs like Burnett’s, mid lines like Tanqueray and the higher end like Hendrick’s.
But it’s been Bombay Sapphire that has found a favorite place for me.
Bombay Sapphire is a London dry gin, with an infusion of 10 different “exotic” ingredients: almond, lemon peel, liquorice, juniper berries, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb, and grains of paradise. The triple distilled process makes this gin a much smoother blend and gives it a nice flavor, making it perfect for a martini, gimlet and mixing with tonic. Even diet tonic with this gin makes it a pleasure to drink. And the price for this gin at most bars is not cost prohibitive, with the average price of a Bombaby Sapphire and tonic around $5.50.
As for my preferred method of making this favorite, I take a large rocks glass, fill 3/4 the way with ice, cut a lime slice and squeeze it over the ice. Free pour Bombay Sapphire, filling just under half way to the ice level, then fill the rest of the glass with tonic.
The only variation I add to this is when my brother in law visits, I add a maraschino cherry with a little bit of the that juice to his drink. For me, that’s too sweet. I prefer less sweet and a stronger drink.
For the photo above, I switched to a larger glass due to the ending of the holiday season called for a MUCH larger gin and tonic.
How do you like your gin and tonics? Any favorite gins? Any other Bombay Sapphire fans out there?
